Boil water advisory lifted for Spokane Valley residents

SPOKANE ¾ The boil water advisory issued Wednesday (October 19) due to the presence of E. coli bacteria in the Consolidated Irrigation District #19 drinking water system #2 has been lifted. The advisory covered the area of the district south of Interstate 90, generally east of Flora Road and generally west of Henry Road (see below).

Chlorinating the water supply to provide continuous disinfection has been effective. A total of 24 coliform bacteria follow-up samples collected from the affected area over the past two days have all shown satisfactory water quality.

The source of the contamination has not been found; however, the Consolidated Irrigation District will continue to disinfect the system while taking regular samples to insure that good water quality is maintained. There have been no reported illnesses associated with this incident.“

The district has worked very hard to take all of the steps necessary to assure its customers have water that is safe,” said Scott Torpie, eastern regional office manager for the Department of Health’s Office of Drinking Water. “We appreciate the cooperation and support of district and neighboring water system staff who did a tremendous job managing a difficult situation.”

Customers who have shut off or not used fixtures, water fountains, ice machines, soda machines, and/or other equipment over the past several days are reminded to flush the fixture or equipment until there is a change in water temperature before putting it back into service.

“We’re pleased that the boil water advisory can be lifted – and we will continue to closely monitor the situation so we can assure safe and reliable drinking water for the people of this community,” Torpie added.
