Physician charged with actions contributing to patient deaths

OLYMPIA ¾ The Department of Health has charged Yakima physician Rosa M. Martinez (MD00031317) with unprofessional conduct for allegations of failing to meet the standard of care. Martinez has 20 days to respond to the charges.

According to the statement of charges, Martinez’ failure to meet standards contributed to three patients deaths and put four other patients at unreasonable risk of harm. Allegations against Martinez include prescribing excessive quantities of controlled substances to many patients, failing to order appropriate tests and continuing to prescribe despite signs of abuse, addiction or overdose. The charges include failing to maintain adequate records and failing to consult with specialists and/or follow the recommendations of specialists.
