Suspended Lewis County physician to surrender license permanently
OLYMPIA ? The Lewis County osteopath charged with prescribing excessive amounts of medication after six patients died from overdoses will surrender his license. Lance W. Christiansen has entered into an agreed order with the Washington State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery and will surrender his license with no right to reapply. Christiansen has been out of practice since June 2005 when a summary suspension was issued against his osteopathic physician license (OP00000959).
In the agreed order, Christiansen acknowledges that a hearing panel could conclude that the evidence shows he prescribed excessive quantities of controlled substances and prescribed without considering drug abuse. The evidence also shows he failed to perform examinations before diagnosing, did not maintain adequate records and failed to consult with specialists and/or follow the recommendations of specialists.
The final order in the case is available by calling 360-236-4700 or online by clicking the link to ?Provider Credential Search? on the Department of Health home page (www.doh.wa.gov/).
The Osteopathic Board of Medicine and Surgery regulates osteopathic physicians and osteopathic physician assistants in Washington. The board establishes, monitors, and enforces qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline. Rules, policies and procedures promote quality health care delivery to state residents.###
