Water customers in Point Roberts advised to boil water
OLYMPIA ? The Point Roberts Water District is advising customers to boil their water because of high levels of potentially turbid "cloudy" water in the system. The water in the system in northern Whatcom County may not be safe to drink.
The boil water advisory was issued as a precaution; the district will add water to its system from the Greater Vancouver Regional District in British Columbia. The Greater Vancouver system recently had turbidity problems due to recent weather, and its water has improved.
Notices about the situation, along with instructions for boiling water, are being delivered to all water customers door-to-door today and tomorrow.
The boil water advisory includes several steps customers can take as a precaution including using boiled water or purchased bottled water for any water that might be consumed, such as drinking, brushing teeth, dishwashing, preparing food and making ice. Water should be boiled for 3-5 minutes, and then allowed to cool before using.
No illnesses related to the community?s drinking water have been reported. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
The Point Roberts Water District, 360-945-4696, will answer question about the situation. Drinking water information is also available on the Department of Health Web site (http://www.doh.wa.gov/ehp/dw/default.htm)
