Drug diversion leads to suspension for Edmonds pharmacist

OLYMPIA ¾ The state Board of Pharmacy and the Department of Health have immediately suspended the license of pharmacist Milton W. Cheung (PHRM.PH 0010094).

This action, called a summary suspension, means Cheung cannot practice as a pharmacist in Washington pending further disciplinary proceedings. Cheung has 20 days to respond.

The statement of charges says Cheung accepted old, outdated, and no longer used prescription medications from various sources, used them to restock his supply, and dispensed them to patients. Other allegations include using patients’ credit cards to purchase gift cards or merchandise for himself, diverting drugs, and stealing cash from his employer. During this time, Cheung worked at the Top Foods pharmacy in Edmonds.

The legal documents associated with this case are available by clicking the link to “Provider Credential Search” on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov) or by calling 360-236-4700.

Anyone who believes a health care provider acted unprofessionally is encouraged to call that number to report their complaint.

The Board of Pharmacy regulates pharmacists in Washington. The program establishes, monitors, and enforces qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms, and discipline. Rules, policies, and procedures promote the delivery of quality health care to state residents.
