Karen VanDusen

Karen VanDusen is currently the
Director of Environmental Health and Safety at the
University of Washington. Her career in public health
began in 1965 when she was hired as the first woman
environmental health specialist in
Washington State by the Seattle-King County Health
Department. Since that time Karen has worked with both
local and state health departments, has been a private
consultant, and has served in faculty positions at
Western Washington State University, The Evergreen State
College, and with the School of Public Health and
Community Medicine at the University of Washington. She
has held several leadership positions in national and
state professional associations through the years and
served 7 years as one of the first community members
appointed to serve on the King County Board of Health.
