Cancer Data

What is the Washington State Cancer Registry?

As part of a national system, the Washington State Cancer Registry (WSCR) collects data about cancer diagnosis, treatment, and death in Washington State. The data are used to identify better ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer, and to plan programs and policies.

Washington State law RCW.70.54.230 requires the Department of Health to establish and maintain a cancer registry program.

Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 246-102 establishes the rules for reporting cancer cases to the Department of Health.

Cancer reporting requirements provide additional information on data collection and submission.

The National Cancer Institute and the National Program of Cancer Registries at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provide funding. The Cancer Surveillance System at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center helps the state registry gather cancer case information.
