New law changes for licensed massage practitioners

The 2011 Legislature passed a bill (SHB 1133) amending the law relating to massage therapy. The new law took effect July 22, 2011. It requires:

  • A massage practitioner’s name and license number to appear on all of his or her advertisements.
  • A massage practitioner to conspicuously display his or her license in his or her principal place of business.
  • A massage practitioner to have a copy of his or her license available for inspection while performing any activities related to massage therapy if it's not his or her principal place of business.

Vaccination is still the best protection against flu

Flu affects many people in Washington each year, so healthcare providers should keep emphasizing the importance of flu vaccine. Encourage annual vaccination to keep our state’s flu level as low as possible. You have a key role in preventing this life-threatening illness. Healthcare providers are the most trusted source of health information. A flu vaccine recommendation and offer from you makes a huge difference. Yearly flu vaccination is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. It’s especially important for those at high risk for flu-related complications. Remind patients to get a flu shot and to use good health manners to help stop the spread of respiratory illnesses.

Thank you for your continued effort to fight these diseases and protect those who are especially vulnerable. Remember to watch out for your own health, too, and keep your immunizations current.
