Important Facts About Lead

Caution sign with child's hand on a window sill Lead Warning Lead Can Poison Your ChildYoung children and babies are most vulnerable to lead poisoning.

Lead exposure can harm young children and babies even before they are born.

Even very small amounts of lead can cause mental and behavioral problems in children.

Most children and adults who have lead poisoning appear to be healthy.

You can get lead in your body by breathing or swallowing lead dust, or by eating soil, food, paint chips or traditional remedies that contain lead.

Homes built before 1978 can contain lead-based paint inside and outside the home. This old paint can flake, chip, or make lead dust.

Removing lead-based paint improperly can seriously increase the danger to your family.

You can learn how to protect your family from lead poisoning.
