 About Us

Several hundred suspected pesticide poisonings are reported to the Pesticide Illness Monitoring and Prevention Program annually under notifiable conditions law. Staff investigate reports of suspected pesticide poisonings to determine their nature and cause. This allows our program to provide:

  • Recommendations for the prevention of pesticide-related illness and injury.

  • Technical assistance and consultation to health care professionals and the public on the health effects of exposures to pesticides.
  • Outreach and safety training for farm workers and professional pesticide applicators.
  • Education for health care providers on recognizing, treating, and reporting suspected and confirmed pesticide-related illnesses.
  • Compiled data from investigations are published annually by the Pesticide Incident Reporting and Tracking (PIRT) Panel.
