Food Recalls and Safety Alerts

Recalled food products affecting Washington State are listed below by product name and date of recall. Recalls will be listed on this page for about a year. For information about older recalls or to see recalls that affect areas outside our state, see FDA and USDA recalls and safety alerts.


Italian sausage, salami  (January 2010)

Daniele International Inc., recalls over a million pounds of ready-to-eat Italian sausage products, including salami, because they have been implicated in a national Salmonella outbreak. These products were sold at Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club, Fred Meyer, QFC, and Haggen and Top Food stores. For a list of recalled products, see the USDA news releases from January 23 and January 31

Parkers Farm peanut butter, spreads, cheeses, and salsa  (Updated - January 15, 2010)

Parkers Farm, Inc., recalls ALL products (peanut butter, spreads, cheese, salsa) due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. These products were sold at retailers such as Target, Whole Foods, Sam's Club, and Safeway. For details, see FDA press release

HAPPYTOT and HAPPYBABY pouch meals  (January 13, 2010)

Nurture, Inc., recalls HAPPYTOT Stage 4 and HAPPYBABY Stage 1 and 2 pouch meals because some pouches have swollen or leaked, which could be an indication of bacterial contamination. The pouches were sold at Target stores in Marysville, Redmond, Issaquah, and Seattle's Northgate Way. For details, see FDA press release.

Rudolph's hot onion ring snacks  (January 9, 2010)

Rudolph Foods recalls hot onion ring snacks because they may contain undeclared milk, a possible allergen. OnYums Hot Flavored Rings were sold at Big Lots stores in our state. 7-Select Louisiana Hot Onion Rings were sold at 7-11 stores. For details, see FDA press release

Hazelnuts  (December 2009)

A hazelnut (filberts) shelling facility in Oregon had one routine lab test come back positive for Salmonella. The following hazelnut products were sold in Washington and were made using hazelnuts shelled at that facility. They have been recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

  • Janzen Farms Oregon Hazelnuts  (December 24, 2009)
    Janzen Farms recalls Oregon Hazelnuts. The nuts were sold at Lenny's North in Seattle during November and December. For details, see FDA press release

  • Burnt Ridge Orchards Hazelnuts  (December 21, 2009)
    Burnt Ridge Orchards, Inc., recalls shelled hazelnuts. The nuts were sold at the Olympia Farmer's Market from mid-November to mid-December. For details, see FDA press release.

  • Whole Foods Market Bulk Hazelnuts  (December 19, 2009)
    Whole Foods Market recalls hazelnuts (filberts) sold in bulk. For details, see FDA press release. 

  • Evonuk Oregon Hazelnuts  (December 18, 2009)
    Evonuk Oregon Hazelnuts recalls raw and dry roasted hazelnut kernels. The nuts were sold at Whole Foods, Cash & Carry, Madison Market, and Andy's Market. For details, see FDA press release.

  • Mountain Man Hazelnuts  (December 18, 2009)
    Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Company recalls select products containing shelled hazelnuts. These products were sold through a direct-distribution network. Mountain Man sales people visited workplaces around the state and sold gift baskets. For details, see FDA press release.

Health Valley Organic Split Pea Soup  (December 16, 2009)

Faribault Foods recalls Healthy Valley Organic No Salt Added Split Pea Soup due to undeclared dairy (butter) and potatoes. The soup was sold throughout Washington. For details, see the FDA press release.  

Quick Fix trail mix  (December 7, 2009)

Rock Creek Nut Company recalls Quick Fix trail mix due to undeclared milk and soy products. The products were sold at the UW Bookstore and Grays Harbor College Bookstore. For details, see the FDA press release.

College Inn No MSG Chicken Broth  (December 4, 2009)

College Inn recalls No MSG Chicken Broth cans due to undeclared allergens. The product was sold at Bremerton Naval Base Kitsap, McCord Air Force Base, and independent grocers. For details, see the FDA press release.

Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products  (December 3, 2009)

Unilever United States, Inc., recalls Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products in cans, due to possible contamination with Bacillus cereus. For details, see the FDA press release.

Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry  (November 24, 2009)

Rikki USA, Inc., recalls Toi Sauce Thai Red Curry (Panang) because it may contain undeclared shrimp. For details, see the FDA press release

Shedd's Country Crock Deluxe Side Dishes  (November 20, 2009)

Unilever United States, Inc., recalls Shedd's Country Crock Deluxe Cheddar Broccoli Rice and Deluxe Four Cheese Pasta side dishes because they may contain undeclared sulfites. For details, see the FDA press release.

Snacks on Racks  (November 17, 2009)

Snacks on Racks, Inc., recalls various Gourmet Snack Packs because they may contain undeclared allergens. These products were sold in hospital and corporate cafeterias, including Providence Health, Microsoft, Pemco, and Boeing. The company also reported that no colleges or universities in our state received these products. For a list of products, see the FDA press release.

Pet Carousel Pig Ears and Beef Hooves  (November 5, 2009)

FDA warns pet owners to not use Pig Ears and Beef Hooves pet treats made by Pet Carousel because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. For details, see the FDA news release and the December 9 press release.

Caramel Chocolate Truffle Hot Chocolate Mix for Two  (November 3, 2009)

Pelican Bay, Ltd., recalls Caramel Chocolate Truffle Hot Chocolate Mix because it may contain undeclared tree nuts. The hot chocolate mix was sold in Hallmark Stores, Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, Pier 1 Imports, and Forks Outfitters. For details, see the FDA press release.

Alexia Oven Reds Olive Oil, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Pesto  (October 30, 2009)

Alexia Foods, Inc., recalls Olive Oil, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Pesto Oven Reds (frozen seasoned potato wedges) because of an undeclared allergen, pine nuts. For details, see the FDA press release.

Dove Caramel Pecan Perfection Ice Cream  (October 26, 2009)

Mars Snackfood US recalls Dove Caramel Pecan Perfection Ice Cream because it may contain undeclared peanuts. According to the company, the ice cream was only sold in Fred Meyer stores. For details, see the FDA press release.

Plum Organics Apple & Carrot Organic Baby Food  (October 19, 2009)

Plum Organics recalls apple and carrot portable pouch baby food because it may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. The pouches were sold individually at Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us stores. For details, see FDA press release.

Artisana Raw Tahini  (September 4, 2009)

Chef Pierre Gourmet Lemon Meringue Pie  (August 28, 2009)

Chef Pierre recalls Chef Pierre Gourmet Lemon Meringue Pie because they may contain milk, an undeclared ingredient. For details, see FDA press release.

Yummy Foods Wife Cake  (August 14, 2009)

Yummy Foods Company recalls Wife Cake because it contains undeclared egg and wheat. The product was sold at Ranch 99 Supermarkets in Kent and Edmonds. For details, see FDA press release.

Culinary Circle Gourmet Macaroni and Cheese  (August 14, 2009)

SUPERVALU, Inc., recalls Culinary Circle Gourmet Macaroni and Cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. For details, see SUPERVALU news release.

Méditerranée Wild Blackberry Yogourt  (August 12, 2009)

Liberté Brand Products recalls Méditerranée Wild Blackberry Yogourt because it may contain undeclared walnuts. The product was available at some Whole Foods Markets. For details, see FDA press release.

Tanimura & Antle Romaine Lettuce  (July 21, 2009)

Tanimura & Antle, Inc., recalls one lot of romaine lettuce because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. For details, see FDA press release.

Plainview Milk Products  (June-July 2009)

Plainview Milk Cooperative recalls over 270 products (such as drink mixes, dry milks, and oatmeal products) because they might be contaminated with Salmonella. For details, see FDA Web page. The following products were distributed in Washington and were recalled because they contained a recalled ingredient from Plainview Milk.

  • Fireside Chai Tea  (July 27, 2009)
    Fireside Coffee Company recalls several varieties of Fireside Chai Tea. According to the company, recalled tea was sold in three stores in Washington: Hearts and Homespun in Poulsbo, Mel’s Nursery in Spokane, and Wickson Celebrations in Puyallup. For details, see FDA press release.
