Rules and Regulations

The office of Shellfish and Water Protection is governed by the Washington Administrative Code (WAC), the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), and in some cases by federal rule.

Commercial Shellfish:

  • Chapter 246-282 WAC, Sanitary Control of Shellfish
  • Chapter 69.30 RCW, Sanitary Control of Shellfish
  • "National Shellfish Sanitation Program's Guide for the Control of Molluscan Shellfish" (NSSP Guide), FDA's shellfish sanitation rules adopted by reference into WAC 246-282

  • Draft Chapter 173-219 WAC, Reclaimed Water Regulation - This regulation is being developed by the Department of Ecology, with input from us.  WAC 173-219 is not yet filed with the Code Reviser, but this link takes you to Ecology's website that has information on the draft rule and the development process.
