Aquatic Mosquito Control General Permit

The Department of Health has been granted an "Aquatic Mosquito Control National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Waste Discharge General Permit" by the Department of Ecology.  The Department of Health is extending its coverage of the permit to entities that intend to control mosquito larvae in surface waters of the state.  The entity granted permit coverage is legally obligated to comply with the conditions of the permit and to implement the best management practices for mosquito control. There is no fee for this permit.

Accepting Public Comments on Draft Aquatic Mosquito Control General Permit February 3 through March 10, 2010 The Department of Ecology is in the process of updating the Aquatic Mosquito Control General Permit. Until the updated permit is issued, the current permitting process remains the same. The Department of Health will continue to extend its permit coverage to entities that intend to control mosquito larvae in surface waters of the state. Starting February 3, 2010 and running until 5:00 PM March 10, 2010, Ecology will be accepting written comments on the proposed permit. Ecology will hold a public workshop followed by a public hearing to collect oral testimony about the proposed permit 1 p.m., March 9, 2010, at the Moses Lake Fire Department, 701 E. Third Avenue in Moses Lake.  The draft permit documents and instructions for submitting comments may be accessed at Department of Ecology's Aquatic Mosquito Control NPDES General Permit Web page.
