Session 1 Navigating Product Laws with Ecology
September 23, 2025 at 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
This session will cover recent and existing product regulations affecting food service and retail operations. Presenters will outline regulatory requirements, compliance timelines, and enforcement considerations.
Topics:
- PFAS in food serviceware
- Compostable product requirements
- Bans on expanded polystyrene (EPS) and plastic bags
- Restrictions on single-use serviceware (like utensils, to-go cup lids, and straws)
Session 2 Organics Management for Food Businesses
September 23, 2025 at 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
An in-depth look at recent organics management laws and programs, including the Business Organics Management Areas (BOMA) and Organic Recycling Collection Areas (ORCA) initiatives. Both laws have significant impacts to food businesses in Washington. Presenters will share a breakdown of the requirements, resources to implement an organics collection program at a business, success stories, and best practices for preventing wasted food and reducing contamination.
Each session allows time for audience Q&A – allowing participants to discuss challenges and solutions.
Presentations will be recorded and posted online. Hosted by Washington State Department of Health Food Safety Program.
